Primary, secondary education (grades 5-12)

Education is based on an interdisciplinary bilingual (Lithuanian and English) teaching strategy. We combine knowledge from different disciplines to complement and reinforce subject competences. In line with the content, achievements and age of the pupils, we focus on cognitive, cultural, artistic and creative activities, and therefore organise some of our activities in environments other than the school.

LEARNING GUIDELINES

  • Language education (Lithuanian language and literature, foreign languages (English and Spanish). Additional Lithuanian language tuition is provided to develop linguistic skills and communicative competence. English is taught according to the Cambridge syllabus according to the level of achievement. Once you have reached a certain level, you can take the Cambridge International Examination. Spanish is also taught according to level of achievement.
  • Social education (history, geography, civics, philosophy, economics and entrepreneurship). In the field of social education, the development of competences other than subject knowledge is important, and various social and popular initiatives are organised, through which pupils are actively involved in activities, propose initiatives and learn to be active global citizens;
  • Mathematics, science and technology education (maths, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, science, technology). Teachers creatively implement the general curriculum in collaboration with each other, organise integrated activities, and make use of educational spaces outside the Lyceum.
  • Arts education (music, art, theatre, dance, theatre therapy). An important area of comprehensive education, where pupils in grades 5-6 have the option of taking dance or theatre classes, and from grade 7 onwards, pupils take theatre therapy classes,
  • Moral education. The aim is to develop a responsible and conscious attitude towards oneself, others, society, nature and the world, and to develop ecological awareness.
  • Physical and health education (physical education and life skills). A lifelong focus on movement and physical activity skills reinforces attitudes towards health maintenance and promotion. According to the lycée's curriculum, all pupils have 3 or 2 weekly lessons in physical education and 1 in life skills.
  • The general competences (communication, cultural, creative, cognitive, citizenship, digital and social, emotional and healthy lifestyle) are developed on the basis of the content of the general curriculum. All competences are interlinked and developed in an integral way.

Subjects are taught by teachers of different subjects. Teachers differentiate the content of the curriculum according to students' individual abilities and needs, choosing the right methods and tools to help students acquire the skills they need: to promote activity, independence, critical and creative thinking, responsible action, orientation in the environment, and problem-solving skills. Each classroom has a teacher-educator who is responsible for the classroom community, made up of pupils, their parents and the teachers who work with that classroom. The teacher acts as a mentor and mobilises the team to achieve class or individual goals.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Most of the activities take place in the main classroom, which is equipped with work and rest areas;
  • Classes in nature and people, biology, physics, chemistry, dance, physical education, theatre, art, and technology are held in separate, dedicated classrooms;
  • During the cold season, physical education classes are organised in the gym (next to the Vilnius College gym);
  • The children spend time outdoors every day (there is an indoor sports field);
  • The school has rest areas inside;
  • Classrooms are equipped with video projectors, computers, tablets and various digital teaching tools.
